The University of Miami/UHealth Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Administrative Director, Clinical Research Services to serve as the senior administrative leader for Sylvester’s Clinical Research Services (CRS) enterprise.

Position Summary

The SCCC Administrator serves as a senior advisor and consultant to SCCC leadership, providing strategic, operational, and administrative oversight for Clinical Research Services. This role ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and University policies while advancing the mission, strategic plan, and research priorities of the Cancer Center.

This position reports to the AVP of Research Administration, with dotted-line reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Research and collaboration with the Associate Director of Population Sciences to support integration, efficiencies, and economies of scale across clinical research operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide executive-level administrative leadership for all SCCC Clinical Research Services across main campus and satellite locations.

  • Advise senior leadership on strategic planning, policy development, operational performance, and clinical research priorities.

  • Lead evaluation of existing services, identify gaps, and support growth of investigator-initiated studies and Population Sciences infrastructure.

Operations & Oversight

  • Oversee all CRS administrative, clinical trials, and operational units, including Executive Directors for CTCU, Operations, and Satellites.

  • Ensure efficient study start-up, feasibility review, trial activation timelines, protocol development support, and compliance.

  • Oversee clinical research laboratories, research nursing (dotted-line), quality, training, and committee support functions (e.g., PRMC, DSMC).

Financial & Resource Management

  • Develop and oversee budgets in partnership with SCCC Finance and Research Administration.

  • Ensure responsible financial management of clinical trials, fee structures, and funding models.

  • Promote economies of scale, revenue growth, and cost containment.

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop senior leaders and staff; support recruitment, engagement, retention, and workforce planning.

  • Chair regular CRS leadership meetings to communicate vision, address operational issues, and foster collaboration.

Collaboration & Representation

  • Serve as liaison between SCCC, University departments, and external partners.

  • Collaborate with Oncology Service Line and standard-of-care teams to enhance research patient experience.

  • Represent SCCC Clinical Research internally and externally, including meetings and conferences.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure strong internal controls, risk management, and compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.

  • Lead CRS engagement with IRB, Office of Research Administration, monitoring and auditing offices, and research compliance units.

Grants & Reporting

  • Play a critical role in the administration and preparation of CPDM and PRMS components of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).

  • Provide regular updates on clinical research productivity and performance to senior leadership.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive, relevant leadership experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience at an NCI-designated Cancer Center

  • Proven expertise in strategic planning, clinical research operations, and people leadership

  • Strong financial, operational, and compliance acumen

  • Ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams and initiatives

  • Excellent communication, judgment, and relationship-building skills
