The Director of Research Administration reports to the Associate Center Director of Research Administration and provides the support structure for the Cancer Center Support Grant and other multi-investigator projects.  The Director is key to building the administrative infrastructure to support scientific Programs and the Cores.  The Director of Research Administration supervises the work efforts and contributions of the Manager of Research Administration and personnel supporting the business operations of the cancer center's shared resources.  Specifically, this position:

  • Supports scientific program initiatives including planning and hosting local scientific retreats, and planning and scheduling study sections. 
  • Supports the Cores by collecting and displaying statistics and information for presentation at local and national meetings.  Oversees pricing calculations, Core advisory committee meetings, and acts as the primary point of contact in administration for Core directors.
  • Works in a matrix environment to coordinate Research Administration staff members in the development, analysis, and preparation of reports for publication in the competing and non-competing renewals of the CCSG; manages the timeline for production of these grants and renewals; prepares agendas, tracks narrative progress, follows up on details, and cross checks data consistency.
  • Supervises the Manager of Research Administration who, in turn, coaches and guides Program support staff to accumulate member statistics, member biosketches, and meeting minutes in compliance with Core grant guidelines
  • Coordinates the External Advisory Board visits including scheduling rooms, coordinating calendars, and preparing agenda

Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; five years experience in a research setting; masters degree preferred, experience or education in science or laboratory setting a plus.
  2. At least two years prior experience in supervisory role.
  3. Solid oral and written communication skills. 
  4. Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
