The Chief Administrative Officer and Associate Director of Research Administration (CAO/AD) is an executive member of the leadership team.  Reporting to the Executive Director of Winship, responsibilities include providing strategic planning, management, and overall administrative oversight for all research-related activities at Winship, shared resources, clinical research, and cancer research development. The CAO/AD is integrally involved in the development, implementation, and programmatic evaluation of the Institute's research efforts, which are essential to maintaining and renewing Winship's NCI designation every five years. As appropriate, will serve as a representative on various institutional leadership committees and boards. Provides input and executes the mission-driven, strategic planning, and evaluation efforts for the Cancer Center. Serves as strategic partner to the Winship Executive Director in advancing the Institute's mission.

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for the administrative infrastructure, preparation, submission, and management of the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and serves as the primary administrative liaison to the National Cancer Institute.
  • Oversees the management of all research-relevant Institute components, including the Cancer Clinical Trials Office, Shared Resources, Disease-specific/Strategic Centers, Office of Community Engagement, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and education programs.
  • Serves as the executive operational leader for the Institute providing strategic oversight for finance (e.g., operating budgets, grants and contracts, and philanthropic funds), human resources, facilities management, marketing, and communications.
  • Partners closely with the Chief Data and Informatics Officer and Chief Research Informatics Officer on IT to ensure data infrastructure and support.
  • Works closely with relevant University and Healthcare units including marketing and communications, website teams, Office of the Vice President of Research, and government and public relations to ensure appropriate integration and alignment of priorities and activities.
  • Participates in oversight and integration of research and clinical programs.
  • Provides expertise and assistance in developing successful multi-investigator, large-scale grant submissions that are critical to the mission of the Center.
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration and translational research.
  • Assists the Executive Director with faculty and staff leader recruitment efforts, as directed.
  • Assists the Executive Director in activities related to the Executive Committee and External Advisory Board. Creates and implements new programs, initiatives, and policies.
  • Provides leadership for the Institute with senior management and serves as a liaison to academic departments, professional organizations, and administrative units of Emory.
  • Works closely with faculty, students, and other leaders across campus to foster experimentation and multi-disciplinary inquiry and teaching by coordinating and developing center programming, including workshops, conferences, training programs, community outreach, etc.
  • Collaborates with others to offer a valuable resource to faculty, students, and institutional leaders and contributes to the broad goals of creating a stronger campus community. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Public Administration, or related and 10 years of experience in strategic administrative/operational management, with significant experience managing a complex academic organization. Doctoral degree and research leadership experience in an NCI-designated cancer center preferred.
